

Jerry was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on July 19, 1928 and attended Scottsbluff High School where he excelled in multiple sports. He will be inducted into the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in Lincoln, Nebraska as an athlete (Class of 2014), on October 5, 2014. He attended the University of Nebraska as a star running back/quarterback. He joined the United States Air Force in 1951, attending Officers Training School. Prior to his deployment to Okinawa, Japan he met the love of his life Beverly Osler. They were married on November 28, 1953.
His career as the head football coach at Fremont High school in Sunnyvale began in 1958 after a move to California. As a coach, teacher, and athletic director Coach "Ferg", a man of integrity, leaves behind a legacy, regarded as one of the most successful and respected high school football coaches in the Santa Clara Valley.
After retiring in 1988, a move to (Lake Wildwood), Penn Valley, California followed. Declining health resulted in a move to Fresno in January 2014 to be closer to family.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Helen Ferguson, his son Ronald, and his three brothers; Roy, Donavan and Wayne.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Beverly, three children; Gary and his wife Janet, Tyce and his wife Kathy, and Corinne and her husband Timothy Kennedy, six grandchildren; Ashley and her husband Blake Freeman, Lindsay and her husband Matthew Walker, Taylor and Ryley Ferguson, Jered and Kaitlin Kennedy, great granddaughter; Sophie Grace Walker, twin sister; Geraldine Miller, and extended family.
His family is grateful for the services provided by Golden Home Care and Asera Care Hospice. A special thank you to Jose Sanchez and Dennis Gray for your friendship to Jerry.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at Mariani's Inn & Restaurant Santa Clara, CA on Saturday September 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Internment will be at the Veteran's San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California.
