He was a graduate of Roosevelt High where he was an accomplished athlete in both track and basketball. He then attended San Jose State University on a Basketball scholarship. When duty called, Gerald decided to enlist in the army. As a Ranger and 1st lieutenant he served in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Medal. Fol- lowing his military service he returned to Fresno to begin a family, which led to his three beautiful daughters, who were his pride and joy.
Gerald completed both his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Fresno State in Mar- riage and Family Counseling. He then went on to work for the Public Defenders Office and Mental Health Dept. of Fresno County for 25 years.
Gerald took great pleasure in the simple things in life. He enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren; Gianna, Ella and Nico. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hiking at the family cabin and fishing at Dillon's Be- ach. He also loved reading, traveling, cooking and carving intricate soapstone pieces. Gerry was a heartfelt and generous man who never passed up an opportunity to help someone in need. Whether that meant a listening ear, something to eat, or a monetary donation, Gerry would make it happen. He lived for both his children and grandchildren. Gerry will be missed greatly, however, never forgotten.
Gerry is survived by his daughter, Jamie Cook and her husband, Ken; his daughter Kath- erine Wright and her husband, Bryan and their daughters, Gianna and Ella; and his daughter, Rozalyn Ya- mamoto and her husband, Jeff and their son, Nico.
