

Gil went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Fresno at the age of 94.
The Unruh family moved to Reedley, Ca. in 1937. Gil being of Mennonite heritage worked in farming until being called for duty in WWII.
During World War II Gil entered the U.S. Army. He trained at the Presidio of Monterey and later became an instructor in the Army Signal Corp and was stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. In 1945, he was deployed to Okinawa and was in two battles. At the war's end he was sent to Tokyo, Japan as part of the occupational forces.
Upon his discharge from the military, Gil began a career with Christian Brothers Winery. He was a Distillery Engineer and Assistant Manager until he retired.
The Unruh family would like to thank the staff of the Fresno Veterans Hospital for the excellent care and
compassion shown to Gil.
Gil was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melissa Barkley.
Gil is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Loretta Unruh; his daughter, Laurel Barkley and her husband Bill; son, Del Unruh and his wife Kathy; granddaughters, Kristen Weis and Melanie Clay; grandson, Eric Unruh; and four great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, Ca. on Tuesday,
February 5, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.
