Gladys was born July 21, 1937 in England, Arkansas to Archie and Dra Varnell.
She lived in Arkansas until age thirteen when she and her family moved to California. The daughter of migrant farmworker she and her family moved around a lot and finally settled in Tranquility, California where at the age of eighteen she met and married Sam Newman.
Gladys is survived by; son Calvin Newman; and daughter Sandra Newman; brother Benny & Mary Varnell.
Gladys also leaves three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.
Gladys never met a stranger. If you were within three feet of her you became her friend. She said many times that she was a people person and that it did not mater what age, race, financial or social status one was in she was your friend. She's been in heaven for several days and God only knows how many new friends she has made.
A Graveside Service for Gladys will be held Monday, August 6, 2018 at 10:00 am at Golden Sunset Memorial Park, 310 S. Goldenrod Ave., Kerman, California 93630.
