

Glenn Arthur Johnson was born on July 12, 1921, in Casey, IA. He attended schools in Des Moines, IA. In January of 1941, he joined the United States Army. In 1942, he married Dorothy Kelley, and they just celebrated 74 years together. In 1943, he shipped out with the Amphibious Engineers and spent his World War II years in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, returning to Des Moines in 1945. A daughter, Cherie, and son, Jerry, were born and they lived in Des Moines until 1961, when they moved to Fresno, CA. He retired from the Fresno Bee in 1983. He had played drums in high school but didn't get back to them until he retired. Over the years, he has played with many Shrine bands. He also played with a small group at the Clovis Senior Center and loved the country western songs. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed wood carving. He was kind, caring and always available when someone needed help. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children, Cherie Stewart and husband Darrel, and Jerry Johnson; four grandsons, Matt and Mike Stewart, and Mitch and Joe Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank everyone at Orchard Park; and Optimal Hospice, for the wonderful care they gave Glenn. A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
