Gwendolen Marie Kovacevich was a sensitive soul born on November 10, 1959, whose courage in the face of life’s challenges whispered instead of roared, yet still left its impact on those blessed enough to witness it. In her wake, she leaves behind family who mourns her suffering.but celebrates her pureness of spirit and love for her favorite things. First on that list was her mother, Emma, who preceded her in death eight years ago but in whom she is finding comfort once again. Family ties were Gwendolen’s life line, reaching out to and being supported by her siblings, brothers-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Horses held a special place in Gwen’s life as did yoga and dance, See’s candies, Diet Pepsi, and frozen yogurt.
Her tastes were simple, but her gratitude deep as she appreciated the kindnesses extended to her from an extreme makeover by her nieces, to handyman services provided by her twin brother, to two bouquets of flowers delivered by her sister shortly before her death. Life’s circumstances limited Gwen’s ability to give material things; instead she gave from her heart—offering the gifts which she carried in abundance: support, encouragement, time, and genuine caring. She was the cheerleader in your corner whether a niece had an important basketball game, a nephew was getting his junior black belt, a niece was trying to write her first novel, a sister and brother-in-law were training for their first marathon.
Gwen’s reach was not wide in this world—her circle of influence few. But it ran deep, and those of us fortunate enough to have been touched by her will miss her gentle spirit and loving ways. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Georgette and Bob Milla, George and Betsy Kovacevich, Genita and Kevin Costello, Geri and Mike Lamble and twin brother, Greg Kovacevich, as well as loving nieces and nephews: Martin and Kathy Iness; John, Nick and Francine Kovacevich; Brady, Riley and Casey Costello; Kelly and John Lamble; and Kaylor and Jacob Kovacevich.
