Hiroshi Kusakai

Hiroshi Kusakai was born in Fresno on June 29, 1923 and passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014. He was 91 years old. He lived in Fresno all of his life except for the period when he & his family were interned in Jerome, Arkansas. He also served in the Army in the Military Intelligent Services. He served in Japan & Korea. Hiroshi graduated from Fresno High School & also Fresno State College with a degree in accounting. He was married to Day Miyahara for 63 years. They were blessed with 2 children, Kent & Mary Jane. He received his CPA certification while working for Bradford, Bradford, Stark & Wright. For the next 15 years he was in life insurance sales working for Sun Life Assurance of Canada. During this time he received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation. He then worked for Fresno County in the D. A.'s Family Support Division as a financial manager. Last 5 year of work he was assistant to the Auditor/Controller. After his retirement he served on the Board of Retirement of the Fresno County Employees' Retirement Association. He enjoyed his work and made many friends. He was also very good at helping anyone who came to him for advice or help regarding taxes and finances.

He was a very good athlete and excelled in track, basketball & golf. He loved all kinds of sports, but loved golf most of all. He won many golf trophies & awards. Hiroshi was a long and loyal member of the Japanese American Citizens League. He served as chapter treasurer, president & as Governor of the Central California District Council of the JACL. He was also an active member of the United Japanese Christian Church for many years.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother & son, Kent. He will be missed by his loving wife, daughter & his many friends.

Visitation will be at Lisle Funeral home on Saturday, October 11, 2014 form 10:00am to 5:00pm. A memorial service will be held at United Japanese Christian Church on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 3:00pm.
