John was a proud employee of Fresno Unified School District, where for 30 years, he made deliveries with his characteristic broad smile and quick wit to campuses across the city. But he was a musician at heart, and found joy spending his evenings as a drummer jamming with friends on his favorite blues and classic rock songs. John was the eldest son of the late John L. Peterson I, a Fresno City firefighter, and Gloria Peterson, who survives him. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 268, and a 1974 graduate of McLane High School, where he was a drummer in the marching band and played timpani in the concert band. As a teen, John raced motocross at tracks across California. Prior to Fresno Unified, he worked at the old Gemco store.
He had two loves. The first was his son Johnny, whom he lovingly raised as a single father. The second was the Oakland Raiders, on which he never gave up, even in losing seasons. In addition to his mother and son, John is survived by sister, Michelle Peterson; brothers, Jeffrey and Jaimie; step-daughter, Tabetha Cardenas, and her children; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who adored him.
A Memorial Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m.
