Joe passed away January 29, 2014 at the age of 91. He was born on March 2, 1922 and raised in Fresno, the child of Italian Immigrants. His father James, died when Joe was 15, leaving him to help support his mother and three younger sisters. This instilled in him a great sense of responsibility and an excellent work ethic. Although eligible for a deferment from the military, being the only male in his family, he volunteered for the army after the Pearl Harbor attack. He served with bravery and honor in General Patton's Legendary 14th Armored Division Liberator's in Europe. After the war he married Lena Conti and they had several successful mom and pop stores where he learned the butcher/meat cutter trade. He retired from Safeway Stores in 1984. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling, gardening and especially cooking homemade Italian food. He also worked as a driver for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lena in 2008 and his grandson Steven Baker in 1993. He is survived by his 4 children, Susan Baker, James and his wife Laurie, Timothy, and Karen Hevron. He also has 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be extremely missed by all of us.
