Born on July 31st, 1960 to Phillip and Patsy Eldred in Honolulu, HI, Karen spent most of her early years in Hawaii and Washington, DC before relocating to Fresno with her family in 1967.
Daughter. Sister. Twin. Mother. Nurse. Veteran. Friend. She was all of these titles and so much more.
Karen was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving 8 years of active duty as an ATH nurse and in cardiac care. After her time in the military, she later served as a nurse in hospitals in Rome, New York, and Renton, Washington before moving to St. Agnes. She was proud of her work as a cardiac care unit manager and a member of their military support committee.
As proud as she was of her work, she was the most proud of her two children: Jason and Emily Flink. She was a devoted mother to not only both of her children, but also the many young members of Heart of the Valley International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. In addition to working with the IORG, she was an active member of Fort Millerton Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and The Ladies of the Nile.
Karen was never afraid to challenge the status quo and to stand for all that was right and just in the world. Anyone who knew her knows that her life was not a life lived in vain. She spent her entire life dedicated to the helping of all people who needed it.
Karen is survived by her two children, Emily and Jason Flink, her older sister, Tracey Eldred, her twin sister, Carol Smith, and many beloved family members and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you perform a random act of kindness in her honor, or donate to cancer research.
