Laverne served as a Chief Machinist's Mate in the US Navy during World War II. He enlisted in September 1941 and was Honorably Discharged in November 1945. After serving in the Navy he pastored churches for over 35 years.
Laverne is survived by his wife, Grace; sons Paul Tift and Daniel Tift; daughters Ann Ogden and Carol Ruth Korschen; 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The family is currently planning a memorial service to take place sometime after the holidays.
