

an amazing brother, husband, grandfather, great grandfather,
friend and exemplary man. He was loved by his late wife Marion,
eight children, 19 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren,
and a host of family and friends.
Lucius was born in Hays, Kansas on September 17, 1927 to
Evangeline Hodge and Embry Roberts.He was the first of five children.
Around 1942, at the age of 15, Lucius moved to Richmond, California
where he started working at the shipyards in Oakland, California.
He worked at the shipyards with his father for a few years.
Around 1947 once his mother arrived to California he relocated with his mom
and siblings to Selma, CA. Lucius was very independent, business minded,
and strong willed. After working for the shipyard he became self-employed,
opening a shoe shine business, janitorial service, and pool hall.
Lucius successfully opened "Luke's Shoe Shine".
Shortly after came "Luke's Pool Hall and Shoe Shine".
Lucius started a Janitorial service in 1971 and subsequently retired in 1999.
After retiring, Lucius volunteered as a grandparent to provide mentorship and
guidance to troubled youth at the Fresno County Juvenile Hall for ten years.
Lucius lived his life with a big heart and a fantastic sense of humor.
Lucius also enjoyed placing wagers on horse races and keno.
He enjoyed playing the Santa Anita horse track and going to Reno Peppermill Casino.
During his life time, Lucius had seen so much on this Earth and he was always
ready and willing to provide priceless advice, wisdom, and kind words to others.
When asked how to place a bet, he would always say,
"You can't win if you don't bet on it, and you can't win big if you don't bet big".
Lucius departed on September 6, 2017 in Fresno, California at the age of 89.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Roberts, parents, Embry and Evangeline Roberts,
his brother Cecil Roberts, and his sister Ivy Wade and Ida Turner.
Lucius is remembered by his two sisters, Doris Lane ( Apple Valley, CA)
and Shirley Malveaux (Opelousas, Louisiana), his daughters; Lana Turner, Betty Roberts,
Angie Roberts (Pittsburg, CA) and Elaine Parker, his sons; Cecil Roberts (Las Vegas, NV),
Lucius Roberts Jr, Maurice Roberts and George Roberts.
