Maria Furtado Cardoso

Maria Furtado Cardoso, age 88, of Fresno, CA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2017. She was born on July 29, 1928, a native of the Island of Flores in the Azores, and immigrated to the United States in 1955.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She loved to garden and grow beautiful roses and enjoyed the fruits and vegetables grown in her backyard.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Fagundes Cardoso.

She will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Cardoso and his wife Sharon, Frank Cardoso and his wife Lori; and daughter, Maria Fatima Fragueiro and her husband Antonio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Edna Silveira of San Jose, CA; sisters-in-law, Lucia Cardoso of Vallejo, CA, and Lidia Furtado of Fresno, CA; and many other family members and loved ones.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Fri- day, February 17, 2017, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at St. Mary Queen of Apostles Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
