Her parents Drs. David and Josemine and siblings Dominic, Lorenzo, Rosalie, Joseph, and Felipe thank God for the time He gave them with her in her mother’s womb. Maria’s short time on earth was rich, filled with love and God’s graces. Their family pilgrimages included time with the Norbertines at St. Michael’s Abbey for St. Norbert’s Day, and in the last few weeks of Maria’s life, visits to holy sites in Rome, Assisi, Orvieto, Florence, Lourdes, Santiago de Compostela, and Fatima.
Her parents trust that Our Blessed Mother is close to Maria Jacinta–the name that came to Josemine in the days just before Maria’s death–especially given the time they and Maria spent at sites of Our Lady’s apparitions. St. Jacinta Marto, a child who loved our Lord and Lady and made many sacrifices for them and for sinners in her short time on earth, became a special inspiration and friend.
While Maria’s passing was sudden and unexpected, and an occasion of great sorrow, her parents have peace, joy, and faith in God’s providence, goodness, and wisdom. They pray that, by God’s mercy, she is with the Lord and amongst the saints and angels, singing His praises and interceding for her family and those in need.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, from 12 to 4 P.M., with Vigil for a Deceased Child and Rosary beginning at 2 P.M., at Whithurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home. 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno CA 93720.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 11, at 11 AM, with Holy Cross Chaplaincy at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 5770 N. Maroa Ave., Fresno CA 93704.
Burial rite will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 264 N. Blythe Ave., Fresno CA 93706.
The family will wear blue in closeness to Maria’s namesake, our Blessed Mother Mary.
Regarding the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass:
Those presenting themselves to receive Holy Communion— the Body, Blood, Soul, & Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ— should be practicing Catholics in the state of grace, i.e., with no unconfessed mortal/grave sin, and, unless otherwise dispensed, who have fasted for at least one hour from food and drink, except for medication and water.
Holy Communion in the Extraordinary Form (“Traditional Latin Mass”) of the Roman Rite is received with the communicant kneeling and on the tongue. The priest, not communicant, says, “Amen.”
