To the Leal and Avila family,

With the Holidays upon us, 
We celebrate Thanksgiving and the Birth of our Savior , Jesus Christ
Yet, at the same time we pause, to mourn the recent loss , of Maria (Wife, Mother and Grandmother)

I first met Maria, during the time , I was working with Fabian at the Clovis ,K Mart  for 16  memorable years, 
and when I  would visit Fabian at the Leal home in Fresno

After leaving K Mart , I was startled to learn of Fabian's passing and joined Fabian's co-workers, friends and family in the remembrance and  honoring of his life

10 years ago , we met yet again, 
during another somber moment 
Maria  was about to say Goodbye to yet another Brother

As fate would have it , I was there that afternoon, at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Fresno, waiting for my  Mother, to come out of surgery.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with Maria, even though that time in the waiting room was brief ,

 I was able to listen to her heartfelt pain and I tried to comfort her in that moment , with the reassurance 
that he is not alone and 
that Fabian will be waiting for him,
  with open arms in Heaven . 
With Family, even though we mourn the loss of our loved one's today ,
Only to one day, join each other, and rejoice.
To share that love and joy with one another, once again. 

Maria, is now in their loving arms.....…

We would like to express our sincere, heartfelt condolences to Maria’s husband, Steve and their children on Maria’s passing.  Maria was always kind to us  when we saw her and it was evident she loved her family and grandchildren very much.  We are keeping the family in our prayers.  May Maria Rest In Peace.

Maria, our memories of you will never be forgotten. Since day one, 16yrs ago, you accepted me into your family as one of your own. As my little family grew, you than became 
“Nana Maria” with many tia’s, tio’s, nieces and nephews. I’m forever grateful for you and your family. I’ll never forget when I would see you calling while I was at work, I just knew I was going to hear my full name because I forgot something for one of the kids, “what did I forget now?” Lol..It’s hard to send this but I hope you know how much you meant to me.

Maria was one of those parents you could see always sitting in the stands with her family all around her as she watched one of her children or grandchild playing football. Anytime i spoke to her or was picking on her son Ruben i would look and she would have that devilish grin on her face. Our condolences to the whole family from your football family.
On a final note
( The 2020 football season will be dedicated to the memory of Maria Elida Leal-Avila)

Momma Maria I wanna thank you for always loving me like I was one of your own you were always there for me growing up to being there for me on my special day. You will forever be in my heart. Love you my guardian angel....  Love always Bernie

Maria is survived by her husband Steve Avila, children Bernadette Franco and husband Jesse, Rebecca Avila, Victoria Leal, Steve Avila, Amanda Avila, Johnnie Avila, Ruben Avila, her mother Helen Littlefield, sisters, Juanita Cardenas and Elvia Leal, brother Felipe Leal, and six grandchildren.
