

Mom was born on May 12, 1914, in Carson City, Nevada. She passed away into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, with her family by her side. Marie lived a long, wonderful and active life.
She attended Fresno schools graduating from Fresno High School in 1932. Mom attended Fresno State College graduating in 1937. While at Fresno State she was very active in her sorority and was distinguished as being the first woman academic vice president in Fresno State history.
After college Marie taught elementary school in the Corcoran school system where she met her future husband Harold E. "Sandy" Sanderson. Mom and dad were married in November 1941.
Dad was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas when their first child, Richard "Dick" was born. After the war, Mom and Dad moved back to Fresno where Jim and Joan were born.
Mom was an excellent golfer and became a 12 handicap at Fig Garden Golf Club. Mom also loved to play bridge and did so weekly.
Mom will be remembered as a loving, caring woman who loved her family, which always came first in her life.
Mom was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frank and Rose Stupka; and her sister, Frances Helling.
Mom is survived by Harold "Sandy" Sanderson her husband of nearly 70 years; sons Dick and Jim; daughter Joan; grandsons, Rich Sanderson and Ryan West; and granddaughters, Heather Hixon Walker and Crissy Hixon Watkins. She also has three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at Northpark Community Church, on Monday, February 28, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Belmont Memorial Park.
Remembrances may be made in Marie's name to Hinds Hospice; or Children's Hospital of Central California.
