Mary Theresa Gomez Mascarenaz, a woman of deep faith, warmth, and love, passed away surrounded by her family on April 3rd 2025. Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, she was the daughter of Frank and Rafaela Gomez of Zacatecas, México and a 1947 graduate of Boulder High School. In 1952, she married Thomas A. Mascarenaz at Sacred Heart Church — beginning a journey that spanned more than seven decades.
After their wedding, Mary and Tom moved to Wyoming, then to Washington, D.C. in 1961 with five children. In 1971, they settled in Fresno, California, by then a family of eight. Mary created a home filled with comfort, faith, and joy. A devout Catholic and true woman of faith, Mary could spark a conversation with anyone. She was a phenomenal cook and a natural host — her kitchen was always open, and her home always welcoming.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Tommy and is survived by her husband of 72 years, Thomas Mascarenaz, 97, five children, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren — all of whom carry her spirit forward.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 14th at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery, followed by a Catholic mass at 10:00 a.m. and graveside service. Mary’s family welcomes all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her beautiful life.
