Mr.Gilbert was a proud Navy Veteran, anybody that knew him could attest to this fact. He LOVED to talk of the good old days and just sit for hours telling sea stories.
He proudly served in the US Navy for 21 years, he was in Viet Nam, Hawaii, Lemoore, Sicily, Philadelphia and Norwich and then retired as a Chief in Long Beach CA.
After the Navy he started his own asphalt maintenance and repair business that he grew from the ground up to a very promising business for the next 20 years of his life.
Throughout his life, Milton Gilbert took pride in volunteering and helping other veterans. He was a Post Commander for Post 56 and he received the Amvets VAVS National Leadership Award in 2003.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved being in the woods and deep sea fishing. Some of the best times of his life we're at 8000 feet.
In 2014, at 70 years old, he decided it would be a good idea to get on a Harley and ride to his heart's content. And that he did. In the next 10 years, in spite of his cancer and medical appointments, he managed to put 70,000 miles on that trike, riding up and down the West Coast, to AZ, NV, Sturgis and many more destinations.
There are many people, in many walks of life that have been touched by this man.
We invite you to help us celebrate his life February 10th and 11th. After the services, we will have a potluck celebration of life at the community center of The Willows, 2575 S. Willow Ave. Fresno, CA. All other details are on the website. Please reach out to Ed Gilbert on Messenger if you need further details to help with bereavement travel or information in regards to the plans.
