

During the last few months his health had been declining and we want to thank Kaiser Hospital, Valley Home Health and Optimal Hospice for their assistance to help care for our father in a loving, caring way.
Paul was born on June 21, 1925 in Macon, Illinois
to Perry Vawter and Delpha Brown Vawter. He was the little brother to sister Charlene Vawter Leoni.
He entered into active duty in the Navy on November 26, 1943 and was honorably discharged on May 20, 1946 as a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class
He met his life partner, Gladys June Emler and they married on July 26, 1947.
She passed away on their 67th wedding anniversary on July 26, 2014.
Paul retired as a Captain of the Fresno Fire Department, Station #10 at the Airport in 1979.
Since that time he and his wife had many vacations and adventures. They were always going or doing something.
Paul’s favorite pastimes were traveling, playing poker at Table Mountain, music, eating at buffets, reading the newspaper,
watching the news and taking his afternoon nap.
Paul is survived by his three children, Janice Vawter, Annette Smith and husband David, and Paul Vawter II. Paul was also the proud grandfather of Alexandria, Paul, III (PJ),
Magdalen (Maggie), Nicholas and Jacques (Jax). He was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery
There will be a lunch reception at noon at Tang Dynasty, 2066 W. Shaw, Fresno
(Northwest corner of Shaw & West)
