Hello dear mam Beth and kids. Condolence in the passing of Judge Red. He may not be very close to us but I would love to share a memory about him. He was the Judge who officiated our civil marriage, for me and my husband in the year 2007.   I remember vividly his words of wisdom on our wedding day saying, “let your love bind you and never give up on each other. Never ever hurt each other especially your wife…”  We admire so much his simplicity and his very professional ways. As husband and wife, we are living his advice as we go through this life. He is a part of our married life and we are very grateful. My husband admires him as a judge because of his simple ways. Back in the day, Uncle Red once forbade the friendship I shared with her daughter, Arvy. Looking back at all the silly things that  Arvy and I did, I now understood why he didn't approved at first. As time passes by, I became a regular fixture at their house. Arvy and I loved to Karaoke and record songs. Our love for music kept us from going out I guess. And that surely made Uncle happy. He would fix the sound system for us if it wasn't working. I think I can safely say that he was our fan. I will never forget that time when he got us our first gig. Haha. He drove us to plaza for a Baranggay night during Fiesta I think, because Arvy and I had to perform. Although it did not go well after all the hours spent on practicing, it was still something I remember until today. Not because of how Sister Cecilde castigated us come Monday at school but because of how he was so supportive and actually believed we were stage materials. Haha! To others he may look strict even intimidating but at home, he was cool. Thank you for everything. It's a shame I did not get to see you after all these years. But I know you are now at peace. Enjoy heaven Uncle. To the Valera family, know that you are all loved. God bless you all.

How will I ever forget a simple and a humble Judge Red who initiated our civil bond on November 6, 1997?

Sakit isipin na hindi na po namin kayo makikita kailanman Judge....regret lang po namin na hindi namin kayo nabisita noong huling uwi ninyo dito sa Pinas.Talagang balak namin kaso adamant kami baka may maibahagi kaming virus sa inyo........Ah parang kailan lang...nang magtransfer ako sa MTC from RTC, may agam agam ako noon na baka d ko mameet expectations niyo...sa una kasi..napakasuplado niyo  kaya...pero ng dumating  sina Carina at Ng Jenny at sampu  ng staff niyo noon na Sina Ng Au ,Henry nabuhay ang pagkakalog at palabiro niyo  sa aming lahat....ang dating elite o mataas sa tingin ... well napakahumble at napakasimpleng tao ninyo po....saan pa kaya makakakita ng huwes na pag alang sundo, naglalakad at nagtratricycle...kayo lang.......super bait po kayong boss at tatay sa min lalo na sakin....d namin namalayan....magreretire na pala kayo....well ganun  ang buhay pag sa kabisihan...d namamalayan ang oras......o kay .sarap balikan  ang mga  miryenda time natin sa office kasi kahit gaano man kasimple ang pagkain natin noon...nagiging masarap dahil sa biruan at kwentuhan  tungkol sa buhay buhay at sa mga advices niyo..dito nabuklod ang pagiging solid kapamilya natin sa office .....sa pagkawala po ninyo...bumalik ang sakit ng nawalan ng mapagmahal na magulang....hindi po namin kayo  makakalimutan Judge Red dahil naging parte po kayo  ng  buhay namin......baunin  niyo po ang taos -puso naming pasasalamat sa SAMAHAN at sa iyong kabutihan at  nawa'y sa pagpanaw niyo matagpuan niyo   po  ang katiwasayan ng pagkahimlay at  ng buhay na walang hanggan sa piling ng ating Panginoon Diyos........

One of my favorite memories of you, Pa is whenever you talk about fastfood - hamburJER, pichaa, Jooolibee.. 

Another one is your everyday routine of reading the daily newspaper after your afternoon naps in your favorite spot in the house. At night, we all gather to watch the news on TV as a family as we all hear your stand and comments on politics and the govt while Mama preps dinner. 

Pa, Holidays are coming. I used to get excited when you start your Tagalog Christmas Choir carols playlist and handing out balato money to everyone whether you win or lose in the Christmas Derby or bribing me with more Christmas money just to hear me sing for your pañeros. Noche Buenas/Media Noches and Birthday Celebrations won’t be the same without you. A really hard pill to swallow.

I love you Pa. I see you. I live you. You are and will be in everything that I do. There is no greater love next to yours. You were larger than life, the divine on earth and I am so lucky you got to be my Papa. You taught us about integrity. Thank you for teaching me how to be a man even though I’m your daughter.

Gone but not forgotten…. This is how I described Judge Red Valera in several occasions that I met him; most of it was in his court. I will sorely miss his kindness and soft-spoken gesture in the court. One or many may confirm that Judge Red was one of the humblest judges ever appointed and served in judiciary until his retirement. I cannot but over emphasize how Judge Red has allowed lawyers, including me to set our cases at our convenient date by primary considering the distance of our office in relation to his court. As a neophyte lawyer, way back then, Judge Red was more than procedurally lenient to me, which gave me sort of strength and encouragement to continue and pursue my private practice.

In seldom out of court gatherings, I cannot forget how he shared his days in law school, our school, the University of the East. He named one-by-one his college friends who happened to be my fraternal brothers, among them was my father-in-law, his classmate in law school. In our conversation, he always closed by saying to be always humble and be kind. Well, I can say, “he really practiced what he preached”. Judge red was an epitome of kindness and humility. His court’s staff could affirm this assertion, as they themselves are the living witnesses how good Judge Red was. 

We mourn for his untimely demise. We miss a magistrate who respected and   adhered nothing but rightfulness, law and justice. His stint in judiciary will truly serve as monument of true public servant and an impartial judge. His utmost dedication in court and his dealings with everybody, to me, will forever be in my thoughts and I always cherish.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE JUDGE RED, TILL WE MEET AGAIN…

Red left for Manila to pursue his law degree while I remained in Abra pursuing many things, mostly mischief.  By the time Red came back to Abra, I was the bailiff of the late Judge Leopoldo Gironilla. Red applied and became the clerk of court of Judge Gironilla. Our friendship further deepened while we work together in court. Both of us loved fun; we were friendly to everyone especially to the pretty girls. Of course that is in no way an admission or disclosure that  we were unfaithful to our wives. (Red and I are certified wife-fearing husbands.) During the time we were together in court, his daughter Lisa was born and I became Lisa's godfather. I'd Lisa could speak then, she would have protested having me for a godfather. Ado utang ko na pamasko sa kanya.  Red and I were like brothers.  He knew, just like Judge Gironilla knew, that I never compromised their positions as judges due to our closeness to each other.  Even when he was a municipal judge, Red and I remained good friends. Outside his courtroom, he was the same easygoing friend I always knew. 

I would visit him every chance I had whenever I would go home to Bangued. But, the last time I went home about three years ago , I could not see him because he was very sickly. I think retirement did not suit him. But on facebook, we continued our boyish banter and teasing of each other. 

I saw Red last on FaceTime a few days before he was called to report before God. Beth painstakingly held the phone as I tried to cheer up my kumpadre. It pained me to see my dear friend unable to respond to me in the kind of way we would tease and poke fun at each other.  But one thing is sure, we will see each other again. 

Red, nauna ka lang, padre. Isipin ko na

Our families are so close that my parents consider you and Anty Beth as their second parents. And growing up I consider you as like a grand father because you have so much similarities with Papang Rey. Thank you for looking after the welfare of our family especially during those trying times. I will never forget that Christmas night that you talked to my grand parents to fix their marriage. That means a lot to us. Our family is very grateful to your kindness. Rest in Peace Tsong Red.

A BRIEF MANIFESTATION.

I filed a MOTION TO EXTEND THE PERIOD OF YOUR LIFE but was denied. A second motion for extension cannot be entertained once a first one was successfully obtained, I was told. Around 5 years ago, doctors gave you no more than  three months to live. And by gosh, you proved them all wrong.

I filed an APPEAL WITH A MOTION TO TURN BACK TIME but again it was denied. Time cannot be brought back to change a life well-lived by a dutiful son, doting husband, stern yet indulgent father, dedicated barangay chief and public servant, and a fair, honest and principled Judge. There are no grounds to undo such a perfectly lived life.

I am thus constrained to file a PETITION to  our Highest Magistrate, our Lord God Almighty, with the following prayers-  (1) that He embraces you in His Eternal Love as you join Him in Heaven; (2) that You are  freed of all concerns for  your wonderful family (your wife, six children, in-laws and grandchildren, both present and future) whom you have adequately cared and provided for. (Your tremendous care and love for them have assured them that they will move forward strong bearing your memories and love.); and  (3) that when the time comes for all of us to unite, you would again be at the head of the table sharing with your loved ones your winnings and stories of how you've won countless times over St. Peter in your cockfights in Heaven.

Thank you for being such a great Papa to Red (An-an) and Justice Redziel. 

Your service, integrity, dedication and love shall forever be a source of inspiration for those whose lives you have touched.

Rest In Peace Judge Red(Bossing). Thanks for everyhing especially the trust and confidence you had given me during our years in the judiciary.I remember right when one time a person approached me seeking for help and assistance being a Clerk of Court at that time,advised him to talked to Judge Red but instead told me he had already talked to Judge Red and Judge Red told him ,go to Raul and if Raul said yes it’s also a yes for me.Thanks for the big Trust boss.Judge Red is not only a good boss,a good adviser, a good buddy but also a good manong.Thanks for those happy moment we’ve been together bossing. Your memories will always linger in our hearts and thoughts.We will never forget you bossing, we love you. Until we meet again.

To an incomparable soul who dedicated his life in service of justice and compassion,

I had very few interactions with you as a visitor in your humble home. It is always an honour (although sometimes coupled with fear) to see you sir. Although I have no idea of how you have been working for the past decades as a lawyer and a judge, your work alone speaks volumes. Personally, I am thankful for you sir, because I have met one of your daughters whom you raised well. You’ve raised someone with heart, kindness, compassion, honesty, and love. I think that you have lived a life worth remembering and every time I see your daughter who I became close with, I always associate it with the idea that her parents, her dad, raised an amazing being. 

You’ll never be forgotten sir. Rest in peace and power.

To my first Boss Judge Red:

When I first entered the world of the Judiciary, he was the first one to welcome me. The Municipal Trial Court of Bangued, Abra was the coolest court in town because of its unrigorous environment led by Judge Red. He shares a lot of funny chitchats and jokes, he teases everyone in our office, and he loves his family so much. He was the most down-to-earth Judge that I’ve met. I will never forget the man who taught me to believe in myself. We will miss you, Boss. ❤️ Thank you for the trust. ❤️ Rest in Christ’s love 🙏

I met Red when he was clerk of court and I was just appointed as a legal researcher back in '85. He asked me if I drank liquor and I replied, con mucho gusto Panero. He gave me his "RED"iant smile and said: Let's paint the town RED! Our nocturnal adventurism, emanating from youthful exuberance certainly makes  the episodes in the film "Hangover" pale in comparison. Then he was appointed Judge and I held him with much respect. He was my idol. The first ever judge with whom I was privileged to be close to. He encouraged me to apply and was privileged to join him. As first level judges, we turned serious in our new role as dispensers of justice. Like everyone in our position, we dreamt to rise one step in the judicial ladder. But he confided to me that he was facing harassment suits from disgruntled litigants, which hampered his promotion. But he rose above this adversity with the firm determination to heed the call to dispense justice though the heavens fall. Fiat justitia ruat caelum. Today as his proud profile hung majestically above the entrance to the Hall of Justice, I conclude, beyond the shadow of doubt that Judge Red is the best RTC judge we should have had...

I understand that everyone knows I am a Papa’s girl. I looked up to him that being a lawyer was my dream when I was a kid.
When I was just little, he used to buy me shirts and clothes that says “My daddy is a Judge.” I grew up with his strict rules like no boys allowed in the house, no phonecalls (we used to have the old telephone), be home after school (agad agad) and we have to have dinner together. When I violated these rules, I was grounded… forever. (🤣)
A lot of wonderful memories come to mind when I think of being a child with my Papa. I remember, He was the “Chong Red” of every kid in Zone 7.  
We used to have the Gallera Moderna at the back of our house that he go to every Sunday and when he wins, he would give us a lot of money. 
These were just parts of my childhood that I remember with him.
When I graduated in College, I started working and still his strict rules were followed.
He knew when I was having problems, he was my confidant and I to him. He was happy when I got married and happiest when I had my kids. They love their Papa Red so much. 
I ask myself why I am being hurt this much when he was gone. Maybe he was a good father, or grandfather to my children. Maybe he was a good father-in-law to my husband. He always tell me to be good to my kids and to never hit them or scold them and when I do, he was there for them. He would take them away from me until I feel better. He was a good man. He was a loving father. He was too good and kind to his grandkids that they may chose him over me. He was loved by my husband. They were alcohol buddies.
Then and again, why does it hurt? Maybe the memories that will never happen makes it unbearable. Maybe not seeing him and confiding in him makes it look so sad. Maybe missing him this much will break my heart. (and it is already 💔)
I love you so much Papa Red. Words will never bring you back neither with my tears but your memories will forever embedded in my heart. 😭😭😭


Tito judge thank you for telling me the secret in passing the bar exam, now that your gone I’m gonna share our secret, this is the exact words you said as far as i remember “lahat naman tau hans  na graduate ng law school nag-aral at kung hindi tayo nag-aral I doubt hindi tayo gagraduate sa law school, to be a lawyer is a blessing and choosen by the Supreme God, siguro kulang ka lang sa dasal hans kaya dapat matoto ka magdasal at magnovena ka kay mother mary of perpectual help kasi ganyan din ako nagdasal ako kay mother mary of perpectual help kaya pumasa ako sa bar totoo ito hans kaya maniwala ka, hindi ka niya papabayaan and pray hard” so what I did after taking the bar i did my novena to mother mary of perpectual, at the time the result will come out, I went in front of the Supreme Court waited there for two hours for the result, I didn’t feel afraid or anything that would scare me because i feel that there are two angels beside me, one from right side and another in my left side but i couldn’t see them, I couldnt believe a miracle just happened , my name went out on the screen of the Supreme Court of the list of the bar passers. Tito judge red again thank you, rest in peace and Condolence to the family. I am sure mother mary of perpectual help welcomes you in heaven, you’re a servant of God from the judiciary. Thank you tito judge.

Dear Pa, 

It’s difficult to express what I feel right now. I just want to be with you in silence and let my heart speak. I cried a lot but these tears are not enough. But tears talk more than words. They express what I truly feel. Di kita nakasama dyan. Wala ako sa tabi mo to ask for forgiveness. I wish I was there to whisper, “Mahal na Mahal kita.” I can justify my absence but deep inside me I know my physical presence is most important in your last moment. Ang hirap. Bakit kasi andyan ka at andito kami? But what would you want me to do right now? Di ko alam. But I know you are still thinking about our welfare. You had always been a good father to all of us. And let me claim selfishly na paborito mo akong anak even just once, this one time. You had always been a model for me, a guide for my life. Idol kita. But now you’re gone. Andaya naman. Wala man lang last wish for me? Last advise? Okay lang naman. Your entire life has been a great advise for me. Pero miss na kita at si Redziel. Sana mahaba pa ang buhay mo at nagkausap pa tayo para nakahingi ako ng sorry, advise, at napasaya pa kita. Remorse is always at the end. I wish I was able to make you happy in little ways when we were together. Sana di ako naging pabigat sa yo. At kung naging pabigat man, sana mapatawad mo ako. I want you to travel to  new life na walang baggage or resentment. I will always pray for you and kay Mama, sasamahan namin sya pagdating nya dito. We may not be complete as a family now, but your memories will always be with us kapag nagsasama-sama kami.
