Richard Gamboa Mendoza

A loving and devoted husband of 41 years to Pilar S. Mendoza before her passing in 1997. He never remarried.

A good and loving father to his two daughters, Corrine Mendoza Castanon and Gloria Mendoza Castanon and father-in-law to Fred Castanon and Marty Castanon. A wonderful Grandpa to six grandchildren Jared, Roman, Alexia, Cienna, Jacob and Jasmine. A sweet as can be Grandpi to nine Great-grandchildren, Zavian, Nicho, Nyla, Alaina, DayLynn, Dalton and Ceylah, Kennedy and Ariah.

He was an Edison High School alumni. Richard was a proud Army and Air Force veteran, he served from 1945-1956. He gladly donated regularly to the Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations of Fresno, CA.

He worked in Maintenance for the F.U.S.D and later retired from the City of Fresno as Maintenance Supervisor at the Fresno Airport.

Dad loved and was very proud of his Mexican American heritage: the people, the food, the music.

He furthered his education through technical adult schooling. Dad was a skilled licensed Barber where he much enjoyed not only as a job but giving free haircuts to family and friends in his special antique barber chair. Dad also became a Welder by trade. Over his lifetime he enjoyed many hobbies like: Reading, Golfing, Bowling, tending to his Aviaries and Koi Pond, riding his motorcycle in his younger days, Japanese landscaping with his older brother in his backyard, building things, fixing things and creating things, tinkering in his garage. He always looked forward to his getaways with his wife to Reno. And later in life many beach trips with his kids.

After retirement, he thoroughly loved going to his job working for the Fresno Fair Grounds Swap Meet

over 20 years. Doing odd jobs, but mostly being in charge of the parking booth and making lots of friends.

As his family grew and grew he loved being around his grandchildren for all kinds of occasions. They gave him immense joy. We will always appreciate how much Dad cared for, loved and helped ALL his kids. May our Dad, Grandpa and Grandpi rest in peace in the presence of our Lord.
