He was in service with the United States Naval Amphibian forces on Eniwetok Atoll during World War II. Bob attended Fresno High School and Fresno State University. He was an avid Fresno State sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma Steele; and his sister, JoAnn Hill.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine Steele; his daughter, Mary Steele; his son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Julie Steele; and his 14 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, March 3, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
