He graduated from Washington Union High School where he met his future wife, Sandra Horg. Upon graduation, he attended Fresno City College and was then drafted in the Army during the Vietnam War. After he proudly served his country, he returned home, attended Fresno State and married his high school sweetheart in 1969 and began their marriage of 53 years. They started their family with the first born daughter, Kimberly while living in Bakersfield.
They moved back to Fresno where he built homes with his father and uncle and then started a career in banking that lasted nearly 30 years. The couple then had their son, Jason Horg. He continued to work in finance and then branched out on his own and opened a hardware store. Ron could build and fix anything so it was his dream to open a hardware store. He worked there with his father and children who sometimes were the cashiers. No matter how busy he was, he always made time for his family and showed up if anyone was ever in a pinch. He coached his children’s sports and cared deeply about his family’s well-being by always being present at recitals and games.
Ron was an avid golfer and liked fishing and boating as well as working on his classic cars. He also bought his children classic cars and restored them. Later on in life, he joined a classic car club where he enjoyed going to car shows and winning ribbons and trophies for his cars.
He always loved helping others and would often be called upon for his skills. Ron was a jack-of-all trades. He could fix anything and had a wealth of knowledge when it came to cars and home repairs. He also had a talent for landscaping so he designed beautiful gardens for his wife in their yards. He had a great sense of humor and loved a challenge. He always seemed to know the answer to any question especially concerning history.
