Ronald Lee Laub Jr.

Born in Fresno, Ron spent his childhood in Lockeford, California, where he worked alongside his parents at their veterinary clinic and later helped in the family vineyards.

Ron graduated from Lodi High School in 1972. While in high school, he was actively involved as a yell leader, participated on the swimming and water polo teams, and served as the DeMolay Master Councilor.

After graduating, Ron attended UC Davis, joining the Theta Xi Fraternity and completed a research stint at the National Institute of Health in Maryland. He continued his education at San Francisco State University, which included classes at the Moss Landing Marine Lab. Each summer, he worked as a guide at Kennedy Meadows, packing campers into the back country on horseback.

Ron was well read and well traveled. With a backpack and his innate sense of direction, he journeyed through Europe, India, Nepal, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and spent a month exploring the Galapagos Islands. Despite his many adventures, he found his happiest moments at the family cabin in Stanislaus National Forest, sharing tranquility, trees, and the river with family and friends.

Throughout his life, Ron pursued various business endeavors. He ran an import store in New Orleans, Louisiana, managed a popular fruit stand in Marin County, California, and operated a health food store in Berkeley, California. In 1990, Ron returned to Fresno to care for his grandparents and never left. He worked as a salvage operator from his ranch and pursued his greatest passion, which was landscaping and plants. He held a Master Gardener Certification.

Ron will be remembered for his generosity and compassion. He saw value and purpose in all people and things, often repurposing items and sharing what he had.

He leaves behind his mother, Joyce Laub of Lodi, California; his son, Michael Rollins of Honolulu, Hawaii; his sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Jim Millsap of Encinitas, California; and his nephew, Matthew Millsap of Eugene, Oregon. Ron was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Dr. Ronald L. Laub and Marjorie Laub, and a nephew, Michael Millsap of Corvallis, Oregon.

The family extends their gratitude to Ron's friends who shared life's journey with him and to his loving cousin, Claudia Kennison, for her visits and support.

In remembrance of Ron, one may choose to give generously to homeless solutions and reflect on the words of "Amazing Grace,” his favorite hymn.
