He was a resident of Clovis, California.
FRESNO COUNTY, CA. The Central Valley community mourns the passing of Stan Oken, a respected former Fresno County supervisor, accomplished entrepreneur and beloved coach,
passed away with his family beside him at the age of 97 on February 16, 2026. Stan is survived by his wife Dorothy, his three children, Roy, Nancy and Larry, his 8 grandchildren and 9 great children with one on the way.
Stan Oken dedicated his life to community and youth development, and building lasting youth programs that have impacted tens of thousands of children and young adults. As a high school and community college coach he inspired countless young athletes both on and off the field. His leadership extended into public service, where he served as a Fresno County Supervisor with integrity and vision.
Oken was the founder of River Way Ranch Camp, a premier children’s summer camp and Wonder Valley Resort and Conference Center, known for its Outdoor Education Programs, Children’s Summer Camps, the beautiful Wedding Venue as well as a Corporate Retreat Center. Now entering its 60th year, the organization has provided life-changing experiences, lifelong friendships, and cherished memories for thousands. Stan, having been in the MGM Hotel fire many years ago, was prompted to offer the same summer camp experience to young burn survivors, and hence, Champ Camp, run by the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation just celebrated its 40th year at Wonder Valley.
Throughout his lifetime, Oken received numerous honors recognizing his impact on business, community, and family legacy, including the Leon S. Peters Award, Central California Family Business Award, Legacy Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award, among many others.
A viewing is scheduled for March 1, 2026 from 10am-2pm at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home 836 E Nees Ave, Fresno, Ca 93720
A Celebration of Life will be held at Wonder Valley Resort and Conference Center on April 19, 2026, beginning at 11:30am. Friends, family, and community members are invited to attend. Please RSVP by calling 1 (800) 821-2801.
