Tom was born on August 19, 1943 in Culver City, California to parents Morris and Eunice McFerson.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Eunice McFerson and his brother Gary McFerson. He is survived by his wife Judy; his son Tom and his wife Yvette and their children Christopher, Emily, and Chloe; his son Ryan and his wife Lynn and their children Tyler, Kaylee, Connor, and Megan; and his son Sean and his wife Alyson and their children Aileana and Sybilla. He is also survived by his older brother Mike McFerson and a large extended family.
Tom played three years of Varsity Basketball at Culver City High School, receiving All–CIF honors in his senior year. He was the all-time leading scorer in school history when he finished playing, and was later named to the Culver City High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Tom followed his brother Mike to Fresno State, where he played basketball for four years and graduated with a degree in Business-Accounting.
Tom began and ended his career at the accounting firm of Stoughton Davidson, a fifty-year run. He eventually became Managing Partner, guiding the office to become one of the largest and most well-respected accounting firms in the San Joaquin Valley. Tom thrived at Stoughton Davidson, thoroughly enjoying the people he worked with, the clients he assisted, and the colleagues he associated with.
Tom was a member of the Bulldog Foundation for over 45 years and served on numerous boards and committees. He was also a season ticket holder for football and basketball for over five decades.
One of his great enjoyments in life was attending nearly all of his sons’ tennis matches and basketball games. He would offer his sons support and timely advice without ever becoming an overbearing parent.
Tom instilled in his three sons great morals and values, teaching them to be compassionate, kind, and generous to others. He also showed by example how to put family first.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 23, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center. A reception will follow at the same location.
