I'm sad to hear about Vicki's passing,  condolences to Daniel and the family,  Vicki will be missed .

I'm Vicki's cousin by marriage

I came into the Irwin family in 1964 when I married Howard Torongo Jr.. I was overwhelmed by how many cousins he had! 13! He was the oldest. Holiday dinners and family gatherings were festive. I could hardly keep track of all their names! 

Years later, cousin Dan and his wife Vicki moved into Howard's mother’s neighborhood.  After Howard's dad passed away, Dan started helping my Mom with finances.  Because of that relationship, I came to know him better truly enjoyed our meetings. 

After my husband died I drove from So. California to Fresno every 6 weeks to spend time with Mom. During those years we began spending time with Vicki and Dan.  We usually went out to dinner each time I came up. Often we would chat so long that we were asked to leave the restaurant so they could close. Sometimes we went back to their house to talk a few more hours and enjoy the company of the dogs they loved so much.  It was a joy getting to know Dan and Vicki .

Demure, gracious, sincere Vicki!  What a breath of fresh air! Where had she been all my life? Oh how I regretted wasting all those years of "cousin hood" not knowing her.

We had enjoyed similar fulfilling careers: hers in Nursing and mine in Dental Hygiene. We talked politics and interior decorating. We shared stories of children and grand kids. We enjoyed shopping at Christmas, antiquing in Clovis and just being friends. She had several vintage beaded evening bags artfully displayed in her guest room so I gave her my grandmother's treasured one for her collection. We shared recipes. 

She teased me about my fondness for glitz and glitter but when she admired one of my sparkly snow flake pins, I found a special one just for her. She said she wore it on her coat all winter.

Each snow flake is different...unique...no two alike...Just like Vicki, one-of-a-kind and very special. So I’m wearing a sparkly snow flake pin in her honor.


I was Vicki’s Precept Bible Study Teacher.  She taught me a lot of things while she was there.

As I tried to do with all the ladies in class, I invited Vicki to have lunch after class one day and she accepted my invitation. We had a very nice time getting to know one another over Mexican food that day and little did I know the impact she would have on my life as her bible teacher but also the impact she had on our group of ladies.

You see, Vicki had a way of asking questions about certain passages of scripture from the bible that most of us had overlooked or not noticed the way she saw it. She would become intrigued, curious, wondering what God meant when the passage said this or that. What insight she had! What a curious mind that would not settle for just reading it but wanting the understanding as well. As a result, she had us all wanting the understanding too.

Because of Vicki and her quest for understanding, while I would prepare the lecture each week, I had to ask myself ‘what question is Vicki going to ask this week from the study?’ This would propel me to dig even deeper into the scripture myself to try and look into every corner to make sure I covered all that I could in my lecture. This made me a better teacher for the class. 

Vicki was very generous with her laugh, her friendship to us all meant so very much. When the news came regarding her glioblastoma, we were all devastated. We prayed earnestly for her to be healed. The Lord in His graciousness did give us 3 more years with her. She is now with Him forever and ever.

I extend my love and prayers to the family today and pray your hearts are comforted and peace as we know our dear Vicki is free from the earthly sickness and bonds that held her and is rejoicing in heaven. God bless each one. 

Vicki was such a special friend to me.  We met each other when we were in the nursing program at CSUF.  Once we graduated our friendship continued.  There were times we hadn’t seen or spoke to one another for 2-3 months.  We would spend hours catching each other up.  She truly was a very special person to me.  You will be missed Vicki, love you Cathy V.

So sorry to hear of Vicki’s  passing.  We became friends when our daughters were in kindergarten at Eaton school.  A wonderful time for little girls to make lifelong friends. Enjoyed having Vicki for a friend during that time in our lives. We send our sincere sympathy to the family.
