Virginia Belle Wong

Virginia was born in Fresno, CA on June 16, 1927, to Shoot and Lin Mar. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the age of 93. She was the 7th of nine children, growing up in Fresno, and spending 5 years of her childhood in Toisan, China when her family returned to bury her deceased father there. Virginia graduated from Fresno High School and Fresno State University with a B.A. in Business Administration. She was married the same year she graduated from college in 1950. As a doctor’s wife she was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Fresno Medical Society. She worked at the Internal Revenue Service for 15 years until she retired. Virginia enjoyed sewing, knitting, clipping coupons, and solving Sudoku puzzles. She had long ties to the Fresno Chinese community. For many years, she was a Fresno State basketball season ticket holder. She was baptized in 1981 and served as the Financial Secretary of the First Chinese Baptist Church of Fresno. Virginia was preceded in death by Gilford, the love of her life and her husband of 64 years. She is survived by sons, Gregory, Gary and his wife Lang, and Geoffrey and his wife Sophia; grandchildren, Gabrielle Piceno and husband Jordan, Glenna, Galene, Garret, and Gordon; brother-in-law, Dr. Clifford Wong and his wife Cathy; sisters-in-law, Grace Mar, and Kim Mar; and many nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service will be held.
