Alan Morisse Lorenz was born on September 22, 1942 in Chicago, IL at Illinois Masonic Hospital. He was the first child of Otto Lorenz and Dorothy Morisse Lorenz. Alan was the first of 3 children, followed later by a sister Nancy Lorenz Sutherland and sister Alice Lorenz Ingram Wilcox. Being 9 years older than his next sibling, Alan took the time to play with and watch over his sisters. As Alice remembers: He would take her to the park in order to meet girls. Alan loved his sisters very much.
Growing up Alan was known by a couple of nicknames. His dad and uncles frequently called him Joe and his high school friends called him Benny the Squint.
Alan attended Jamison Elementary School and Lane Tech High School in Chicago. Later he attended and graduated with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and MBA from Elmhurst College. He worked for years in the Pure Water field utilizing his education. He especially enjoyed the sales side of his work.
Alan was blessed with three children: Kimberly Carey (Steve), Alan Charles Lorenz (Amy), and Allison Ferriell (Eric). He also was blessed with a step-daughter, Jennifer Mallett Emes (Doug). Between them they gave him 5 grandsons: Ethan Carey, Bradley Carey, Oliver Lorenz, Douglas Emes III (Trey), and Connor Emes. He was proud to have Gracie Jo Baxter as his pseudo granddaughter.
Alan’s main hobbies were his love of rocks, minerals and gems collecting and gardening. His garden was a wonderful example of the joy it gave him.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents: Otto and Dorothy Lorenz, and niece Jane Sutherland
Alan is survived by his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth Dorn Lorenz (Betty), his children: Kimberly, Alan, Allison and Jennifer; his sisters: Nancy and Alice; his grandchildren: Ethan, Brad, Oliver, Trey and Connor and Gracie Jo; nieces: Leah Lorenz and Hannah Ingram, nephew James Sutherland. Also survived by his loving dog Shadow and sweet kitty Sheba. He will be unbelievable missed by all.
