With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Benjamin B. Franklin Jr., a pillar of love, strength, and compassion, who "laid down his working tools" on April 21, 2024, surrounded by loving family in Frisco, Texas. Born on May 9, 1934, in Glen Rose, Texas, to the proud parents Benjamin Balis Franklin Sr. and Lola Mae Belt Franklin, Ben's journey was a profound dedication to family, community, and faith. This commitment shaped every aspect of his life.
Ben's heart knew no bounds, and his passing leaves a deep void felt by those fortunate enough to know him. He joins his sister, Pauline Franklin Woodall, and brother, Duard D. Franklin, in eternal rest. Yet, his legacy of love continues through cherished memories.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Theresa A. Franklin, and his children, Benjamin B. Franklin III (Kerry Franklin) and Patricia L. Franklin, as well as stepsons Ron Lyons (Crystal Lyons) and Chris Lyons, and sister-in-law Schree Wattner. Ben's presence also lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren, Benjamin B. Franklin IV and Reese Robbins Lyons, who carry forward his spirit of kindness and generosity. Ben also had a family of choice, including Lenny and Kim Vasquez. Ben's bond with his family and friends was unbreakable, a testament to the enduring power of family.
A proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin in 1955, Ben embarked on a remarkable career in personnel, shaping the lives of those he encountered in the cities of Austin, Corpus Christi, and Mesquite, Texas. In 1958, at 24, he became a Master Mason and a long-term member of Austin Masonic Lodge #12. His dedication and integrity, which left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him, continue to inspire us.
After retiring from the City of Mesquite in 1989, Ben embarked on a new journey in the real estate industry with his beloved wife, Theresa. Their shared passion and determination inspired others to reach for their dreams.
Faith was Ben's guiding light, and he found solace and strength in Dr. Charles Stanley's teachings. A devout Christian, Ben lived his life with kindness and grace, exemplifying the virtues of love and compassion. He often did things "behind the scenes" to help people and give them hope in challenging situations.
Ben's love for Texas was not just a part of his identity but a source of joy and pride. He proudly displayed his allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns football, his cheers echoing through stadiums and at home, celebrating his unwavering loyalty to his beloved teams. His heart also belonged to his faithful canine companions, whose companionship brought him immeasurable joy throughout his life.
A man of simple pleasures, Ben found joy in life's little moments. From savoring the taste of good bourbon and cigars, reading The Wall Street Journal, and playing Sudoku to sharing laughter with lifelong friends like Brooks and Donna Frazier, he embraced each day with gratitude and joy. His love for classic westerns, Fox News, and Willie Nelson's music brought him joy. Known for his endless pursuit of a good deal or a bargain, memories of Ben will continue to bring a smile to anyone's face when they hear the term he consistently applied to his life known as "Ben Economics."
Benjamin "Ben" B. Franklin Jr. leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his spirit of kindness, generosity, and resilience will continue to guide and inspire us all. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was truly loved and admired by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
