Charles “Forrest” Winget, 94, of McKinney Texas, passed into the arms of the Lord on January 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. A life celebration will be held at a later date.

Forrest was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and grew up in Troup, Texas. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served with the SeaBees Battalion in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign during World War II. After the war, he met and married his sweetheart, Norma Jean Shaw. Forrest worked for Sun Oil Company. He started working for Sun as a roustabout in Premont, Texas and retired 37 years later as District Materials Manager in Odessa and Midland, Texas. After retirement, they moved to Longview, Texas.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents Mefford Arnold and Anna Lucille Winget and his brother Marvin Marion Winget. He is survived by his wife Norma of 73 years, daughter Linda Leicht and husband John of Georgetown, Texas, son Larry Winget and wife Karen of Little Elm, Texas, grandchildren Christine Vandergriff, Keith Leicht, Kevin Winget, Emily Spaziani and 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Forrest was a strong family man. He was a boy scout leader, Little League baseball coach, PTA president at John Ireland Elementary in Odessa, Texas. He was ever present in his kid’s lives and forever proud of his daughter and son. To his delight, the family grew with grandchildren and great grandchildren and he became their beloved Papaw. He enjoyed watching football, fishing, camping, and took great pride in his garden. One of his most favorite activities was sitting on the back patio, drinking his coffee with Norma every morning overlooking his garden.

This sweet man left an indelible impact on all that knew him. His earthly journey may have ended but his legacy lives on.
