For several years my family lived just down the street and around the corner from the Altons—meaning that for my brother and me, Chris and Dane weren’t just kids we knew from school; we spent our share of time hanging out, and whether it was basketball, video or board games, or anything else, the Alton boys were as competitive as they were congenial. I’m pleased to say that Chris never outgrew that: he was every bit the loyal and compassionate “people person,” but in a way that made those close to him want to work harder and keep getting better—because he always did. I will remember him with great appreciation for his inspiring energy and desire to excel, and can think of no more fitting tribute to his memory than to make the most of each moment of every day. For his wife, for Dane and the rest of those who knew and loved him best, heartfelt condolences for a loss so many share with you—and prayers for peace and healing that only the Comforter Himself can impart.

In addition to what I wrote earlier, I’d like to share a couple of memories that make me smile. Here’s a picture at the 8th grade dance. Chris organized getting a limo for all of us. It was my first ride in a limo. Tammy and I organized Lisa Jones’s (Garner) bachelorette party. Chris was the only boy we invited because he was such a good friend. He stayed the entire time making sure all of us girls were safe and having fun. There are many memories before these times, in between and after. He will be missed! Sending healing thoughts and prayers to his wife and his boys and to Dane and the rest of their family.

It has taken me a couple of days to write. I was heartbroken when I learned Chris had died. Chris and Dane lived down the street from me when we were kids. Chris was a close friend through junior high and high school. I also had the fortune of being friends with him into adulthood. In our 20’s and early 30’s, when he came to CO for work, he’d reach out and we’d get a chance to catch up. Chris was always a genuine and thoughtful friend. Kind and sympathetic. I have many memories of him, all good ones. I am thinking about his family and friends and all those who will miss him. His death is a tremendous loss.

I have known Chris since kindergarten. He was kind, caring, and I only picture him with a smile on his face. He is a part of so many memories from elementary school especially and I am so saddened to hear about what happened. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and kids, and please know that he was always such a wonderful person. I am so very sorry for your loss. I am adding a picture I found in our high school yearbook that I think is just an example of the smile he always had on his face

Chris was one of my earliest childhood friends. We played on the same little league basketball team and went to the same school. I remember loving to spend the night at his house. The Alton family was so warm and welcoming. He was the first kid I knew to actually have a job. A paper route in elementary school, can you believe that? I had the opportunity to ride along and was amazed he did that regularly. It was a lot of work! He was a trendsetter, a supportive big brother to Dane, and just a good all-around person. He will be missed!

I never met anyone whose eyes actually sparkled like Chris's when he smiled. He was a close friend in junior high and someone I trusted and always felt at home with. We had so many good times. He was one of the kindest and most accepting friends I had.
My heart goes out to Chris's family - his beloved wife, beautiful children, the rest of his dear family, and Dane, with whom I shared some great moments with Chris. The world lost some of its luster when it lost Chris.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Chris was a great person, honest and hardworking. In 4th or 5th grade he worked every morning and saved up his paper route money to buy a MJ jacket. We were all impressed with the pockets and zippers.
He was always grateful and smiling. He was the rare type of friend who would speak up if you were doing something that you shouldn't be doing.
We lost a really great person, Chris will be missed.

Chris was one of my favorite friends from high school. He was so genuine and sweet! You could always count on Chris for a good hug and a great smile! I remember riding around listening to music trying to sing(rap) along with Paperboy “Ditty”laughing and having such a great time! He was always good at leaving a Happy Birthday message. It was always great catching up at reunions like no time had passed at all. Still the same sweet friend. He will be missed...prayers for his wife and boys, and family. I’m so very sorry for your loss...
