

David Swan Shoup, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 25, 2021. The son of Gladys Gaiman and Vern Shoup, he was one of eight children. David was born in Dover Township, Ohio, on December 7, 1928. David graduated from Waite high school, class of '47.
In 1951, he joined the US Air Force and served in the Korean War as an x-ray technician. David attended the University of Toledo upon his return from the war. He married Maria Gatica on May 21, 1966 and they remained together until the day she passed away on November of 2003 after 37 years.
David and Maria moved to Lodi, California to start the next chapter of their lives in 1968. David worked hard at General Mills for the next 25 years as a Quality Control Engineer. A kind and devout family man, David had a passion for helping and caring for others. He was an avid reader of newspapers, books and had a passion for history as well as bowling and golfing. David was also a wine connoisseur and could often be found enjoying a homemade plate of Mexican food while watching a good Sunday football game.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Maria; brothers, Wayne and Kenneth; and sisters, Helen, Jean, Edna Mae and Carol.
He is survived by his sister, Mary; son, Joseph; daughter-in-law Ana; and grandchildren, Maria and Joseph Jr. He was very much loved by all his nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10 am, February 26, at the Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery.
