Domenico Iannuzzi, affectionately known as Dom or Dominic, passed away April 23, 2020 surrounded by his loving wife and two children after a long and courageous struggle with kidney and heart disease. He was born in Castelgrande, Potenza, Italy on November 25, 1948. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Janet; his daughter, Caterina Grace and her husband Leo; his son, Oscar Domenico and wife Alicia; his grandchildren, Giovanni Domenico and Renee Ava; his sister, Angelina and her husband Giuseppe; his brother, Vincenzo and his partner France; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, Pasquale and Caterina Iannuzzi, preceded him in death.
Domenico immigrated to Montreal, Canada in August 1954. He studied business at Sir George William University (Concordia University) and later at McGill University in Montreal. His career started with the Bank of Montreal and later with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce as a bank manager.
In April 1978, he and his family moved to Plano, TX where he began importing textile goods from Italy. In 1980, he started working for Aerospatiale Helicopter Manufacturing in Grand Prairie, TX where his passion for finance and deal-making flourished. In 1986, he started his own financial company, and in August of 1996, GE Capital recruited him as a Helicopter Finance Vice President ultimately retiring in 2010. After retirement, Domenico continued to work for himself in both the real estate field developing land to build single family homes, as well as refurbishing helicopters.
Domenico will be remembered for his endless wisdom, his tireless work ethic, his generous smile, his unfailing strength, his strong moral principles, and his willingness to help anyone in their time of need. His two grandchildren were his crowning glory, and he felt such pride in them whether it was watching Giovanni play baseball or attending one of Renee’s dance recitals. He was a member of the Italian Club of Dallas which brought him such joy, as well as several charitable organizations including the North Texas Food Bank, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Muscular Dystrophy Association, American Diabetes Association, Reflux Sympathetic Dystrophy, and Junior Diabetes Association of Montreal.
Domenico was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His memory will be cherished and kept alive as we try hard to walk in the world with the same compassion, humility, love, and joy which he carried with him.
The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to the ICU doctors and nurses of Medical City Dallas and Medical City Dallas Heart Hospital for their compassionate, attentive care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Southwest Transplant Alliance at the link below.
In light of the current situation, a memorial service will be planned for a later date.
