Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother has left the world. Dorothy Jean Weinberg, age 91, died in her adopted home in the Dallas, TX area on November 11, 2023. Born on June 7, 1932, in Holland, MI, she was the youngest twin, youngest of three siblings and daughter to Marion and George Wendell. She grew up along the coast of Lake Michigan in which she had many fond memories of living near the Coast Guard station where her father served. Throughout her childhood, Dorothy moved around the country frequently while her father was deployed, and she dealt with the inherent instability of moving from city to city. It was in the late 1950s when she and her family moved to and settled in Southern California where Dorothy called home for most of her life. This is where she married her loving husband and raised two beautiful daughters. The final place she called home was in Frisco, TX where she lived with her daughter Julie and family; these years served as some of the most special as Dorothy and the family were able to spend time together every day.
Among her many roles in life, Dorothy was a loving wife to Milton Weinberg. It was around early 1960 when they met; she and Milton dated for about 6 months before getting married. They were married for 55 wonderful years until Milton passed away in his mid-90s. She was a homemaker, and her family was her priority. She kept her home spotless; she had a beautiful talent for decorating her home with furniture and knick-knacks she cherished and collected over her life. She was also meticulous about her appearance; she would get her hair done every week and regularly did her own nails which always garnered compliments.
Among her many wonderful traits, Dorothy was loving, thoughtful, caring, and feisty. She had an unrelenting drive to be independent; she never drove so instead she walked and took the city bus to the many stores and shops that she frequented. Along her route she built friendships with many of the shop owners and workers. Her caring spirit was felt by everyone she met throughout her life and was reciprocated accordingly.
Dorothy was strong and triumphed over various trials and tribulations that she experienced in her life. Among them, in between her father’s stroke and subsequent passing, her eldest daughter had to have life-saving brain surgery. That was a challenging and stressful time for her, but she nursed her daughter back to health over 18 long months. She took her to doctor and physical therapy appointments, was a fierce advocate, and remained a caring pillar through the good and bad days of her daughter’s recovery. Dorothy was a best friend to her then and remained her best friend until her last breath.
In her later years, Dorothy was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She gave all her heart and soul to her two grandkids from the time they were born to their adult years whom she taught by example to be self-sufficient, loving, and resourceful. She did the same with her five great grandchildren in her final years.
Her loving way of being lasted through her final breaths as she comforted her family and friends who visited her on her deathbed. Her unrelenting essence shown bright her entire life and she was a beacon of light for all. She leaves a legacy of love and honor through those who carry on her beautiful spirit. She is predeceased by her husband, Milton Weinberg, parents, Marion and George Wendell and sister, Mary Ann Licciardi. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Newell, daughters, Julie Muniz and Sandra Weinberg, son-in-law, Joe Muniz, grandsons, Joseph Muniz and Anthony Muniz, granddaughters-in-law, Chelsea Muniz and Evelyn Muniz and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Muniz, Breyden and Kaelynn Love and Stefan and James Muniz.
