Edward Hartnett was born on December 3, 1962, to Sheila and Eddie Hartnett in Washington, DC. Edward is the third child, with his older brother Richard, older sister Helena, and younger brother Sean. Edward was always a happy child who loved playing with his siblings and the neighborhood kids. He grew up in PG County, Maryland, where he loved to hang out with his siblings and the neighborhood kids at the local pool. He worked at Gallenkamp Shoe Store for a long time while he was younger and would often tell stories of the shoe store to his kids, who at this point could probably quote all the stories by heart.
Edward’s mother and father knew him as a great and loving son. His siblings knew him as the fun loving, prankster brother that he was. His kids knew him as the most wonderful, generous, and sarcastic father in the world. The world knew and loved him simply because he was Ed Hartnett; the kindest, dorkiest, and funniest man there ever was.
Ed graduated from DeMatha High School in 1980. After his graduation, he went on as a mortgage banker for 30 years. He was at Bank of America for 18 years, where he was a VP.
Ed loved reading. He passed his love of books onto his daughter, Sarah. He also loved anything that involved being with his family, especially if it involved him hosting. He liked to grill out in the summer. He also enjoyed watching TV shows with his family and his pups. His favorite place to be was with his family. He loved going back home to Maryland, especially St. Michaels, where he always talked about retiring. Ed’s favorite movie were “Casablanca” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”. His favorite singers were, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jimmy Buffett, and Elvis Presley. His favorite TV shows were, Newsroom, Doctor Who, Jeopardy, Friends, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. His favorite genres were, Oldies, 70s, 80s, and whatever Sarah and Nolan listened to in the car when they took over the radio.
Ed was married to Laura Grimes in Oklahoma City on February 8, 1992, and they were married for 10 years. They had two children, Sarah Nicole and Nolan Andrew, the pride and joy of Ed and Laura.
Ed had many sayings including “do what I mean, not what I say”. He would always start his stories with, “when I worked at the shoe store…”, and his favorite thing to say to his son, Nolan, was “take out the trash, butthead”.
Edward Hartnett entered into his eternal life on February, 8, 2016. Ed is preceded by his father, Eddie Hartnett; father-in-law, Larry Grimes; and the family dog, Mocha.
Ed is survived by his Mother, Sheila Hartnett of Stevensville, Maryland; Daughter, Sarah Nicole Hartnett of Plano, Texas; Son, Nolan Andrew Hartnett of Frisco, Texas; Ex-wife, Laura Raelyn Manalo and her husband Leo of Prosper, Texas; Sister, Helena Dill and her husband Denis Dill of Stevensville, Maryland; Brothers, Sean Hartnett of Stevensville Maryland, and Richard Hartnett of Bowie, Maryland; Memphis and Roman, his rescued pals (dogs); Linda Grimes of Little Elm, Texas; Randal Grimes and wife Kelli of McKinney, Texas; Joe, Wendy, Tim, and Patrick Evans of Clarksburg, Maryland; and countless other friends he has met while working in the mortgage industry. He was blessed to work with so many dear people that truly loved him.
