Janice Lynn Buehler Ruegg passed away on June 10, 2024, at the age of 66. She was born on May 23, 1958, in Albuquerque, NM, to her loving parents, Roger and Esther (Wilson) Buehler. Janice graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University, majoring in Food and Nutrition Services. She also obtained her master’s degree from Ohio State University, majoring in Food Technology. She was married to the love of her life, Richard James Ruegg, for 39 years.
Janice was preceded in death by her mother and father, Roger Buehler and Esther Wilson Buehler, and her beloved family dogs, Bhear, Dot, and Sandy. She is survived by her husband, Richard Ruegg of Frisco, TX; son, Andrew (Cayce) Ruegg of Dallas, TX; daughter, Melanie (Andrew) Sutton of Los Alamos, NM; brother, Mark (Lisa) Buehler of Sparks, NV; sister, Cassandra (Maynard Geisler) Coffee of San Rafael, CA; and her adored Goldendoodle, Daisy.
Janice was an avid runner in her early years, participating in track and field through high school. She was a member of the Duke City Dashers and ran numerous local 5-10K races. Janice also enjoyed the annual station wagon trip back to her family roots in Ohio to visit all of her relatives. She often reminisced about riding her bike around Albuquerque during her youth, swimming at the pool on the base where her father worked, and the many songs she learned in the Music Five program in grade school.
Janice was employed by Frito-Lay as a product developer after graduating from Ohio State. She was a vital member of the team that developed Sunchips, which was consumer-tested for four years before it rolled out to market. She then elected to stay home with her children and volunteered in numerous activities, including being a soccer team mom, classroom helper, library assistant, and YMCA swim official. She was a talented seamstress and made her children's Halloween costumes and dresses for herself and her daughter. After her children were in high school, she returned to Frito-Lay and worked as nutrition support for the Education Sales team, which sold products to schools, ensuring they met the guidelines required by the schools.
Janice enjoyed hosting friends and family for visits and gatherings, all the while passionately supporting her children’s endeavors through their youth and was with them as they navigated into adults that she was very proud of. Once both her children left home for college, she and her husband moved into the Frisco Lakes community, where they enjoyed taking their kayaks out on Lake Lewisville, going on bike rides, and bringing Daisy on golf cart rides and walks throughout the neighborhood. She loved including her children and their spouses in her many activities when they visited. Janice was a cherished member in her neighborhood Bunco group and ladies' birthday lunches, which she developed dear friendships with many.
Janice loved to take family trips, typically consisting of hiking with the dogs and enjoying nature. A couple of her favorite places she went to were Coyote Buttes in Arizona, where she found great beauty in the colorful sandstone layers, and the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks in New Mexico, where the natural existence of hoodoos fascinated her.
Janice will be remembered for her kind heart and warm, welcoming personality. Her legacy of love, strength, and dedication will continue to inspire those who had the gift of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life and Gathering Time has been scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Stonebriar Funeral Home, 10375 Preston Road, Frisco, TX 75033. Jan wishes this to be a bright and happy celebration and attendees are encouraged to wear bright business casual attire in her honor.
The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Janice’s name to the SPCA of Texas or the SPCA in your area.
