

Joan was the oldest of five girls, her sister Phyllis lives in North Carolina and preceded in death by sisters Zoila, Beverly, and Shirley. In 1954, she married Manford “Manny” Chandler at Holy Rosary Church in Brooklyn, NY and had two daughters, Charlina and Donna before the family moved to Northern California to pursue new dreams and lifestyle. Joan and Manny were married for twenty-five years until his passing.
A strong proponent of education, Joan worked as an Executive Assistant for college educators at the College of Marin and Indian Valley College in Marin County, CA. She valued education so strongly that she attended college and earned her Associates Degree twenty-five years after her High School graduation. She later became a tutor and counselor for young students after her retirement. Joan was involved in community activism and service and built strong relationships with people from all walks of life. An amazing cook she made every dish with love, enthusiasm, and hot spices!
Preceded in death by her husband Manny and oldest daughter, Charlina Chandler, Joan is survived by daughter, Donna Chandler of Frisco, TX; grandson, Ross McAdoo of Anchorage, AK; grandson, Russell McAdoo of Miami, FL; and great-grandson, Maverick Cru McAdoo; plus, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
