John was born June 6, 1951 and adopted by Jack and Thelma Beverage who raised him in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Jeanette, their daughter Christina Beverage, her husband Brooke Williams, and a half-sister Iva Jean Evans who he discovered and met in 2019. John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Thelma, and his granddaughter Amber Daigle.
John graduated from Bishop Kelly High School in Tulsa, the University of Tulsa with a BBS in Petroleum Engineering and a master’s degree in business from the University of Nebraska. He was a Boy Scout and earned his Eagle Scout badge at the age of 14.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, John was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force where he began his life-long career in Information Technology. It was while stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska that he met his wife and daughter Christina. Jeanette knew that he was special when he started including Christina in a date night planned for the three of us. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he moved to Texas with his new family.
While still working a full-time job, John began volunteering for the Red Cross in 2005 when hurricane Katrina evacuees were sent to Dallas for sheltering. Later, his is primary focus as a Red Cross volunteer was disaster recovery where his kind nature comforted and aided many families after they had experienced a house fire, flood, storm, or other disaster. After his retirement he also volunteered at the Little Elm Area Food bank. He continued both volunteer activities until his health would no longer allow.
John was an avid reader and especially loved reading almost anything to do with science, history, or current events. This year he enjoyed researching and sharing the latest data on COVID. He loved movies and was a big fan of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. John enjoyed traveling with Jeanette and they were able to visit many countries. Most of all, John enjoyed eating and appreciated anyone who would cook for him.
In 2018, John began searching for his biological family through DNA sites and was able to find his birth Mother, Lucille Dunkle and birth father Tom Ivy. Neither parent was still living. In 2019, he traveled to Mt. Carmel, Il where he attended a gathering to meet all his newly found 1st cousins on his birth mother's side of the new family. A month later, he traveled to Little Rock, AR where he attended his aunt’s 90th birthday party and met many more first cousins on his birth father's side. It meant a great deal to him that he was able to meet these very nice and welcoming new family members.
