Juanita was born on September 27, 1937, in Missouri, to Herschel and Martha (Renick) Tuttle. Her life was defined by quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and a deep moral compass that guided her every step.
At just 16 years old, Juanita endured an unimaginable tragedy when she became the sole survivor of six family members who were living in her Flint, Michigan home during the devastating 1953 Beecher F5 tornado—the deadliest tornado in Michigan history. In the wake of this loss, she was lovingly taken in by her devoted older sister, Bonnie Hall (James) with whom she shared a lifelong bond rooted in love, resilience, and gratitude.
In 1959, Juanita married Richard Yager, and together they raised two children. She worked for many years as an executive assistant, earning respect for her diligence and professionalism. In 1978, Juanita and Richard opened the Holly Donut Shop in Holly, Michigan. What began as a small business grew into a cherished community gathering place. As proprietor for more than 39 years, Juanita poured her heart into the shop, leading with integrity, perseverance, and genuine care for others. Many of her employees remained with her for decades—a testament to the respect and loyalty she inspired. She retired in 2017 after selling the business, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and community connection.
In 2021, Juanita moved to Texas to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a decision that brought her immense joy and fulfillment. She delighted in spending time with family and cherished simple pleasures such as reading, thrifting, and traveling “up north” in Michigan—places and moments that always felt like home to her.
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Katherine Everett and husband Larry of The Colony, Texas; her son, R. Brent Yager of Grand Blanc, Michigan; her grandchildren, Elaine Rosenthal (Doug) of Prosper, Texas, and Bryan Everett (Nichole) of The Colony, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Hudson, Leeland, and Synclair. She is also survived by her nieces Ellen Greve, Mardee Hall, Diane Smith (Scott), and Elizabeth Janes (Larry), and her nephew Wallace Hall (Kathi).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Bonnie, Barbara, Marjorie, and Deanne; her brother John; her nephew Jason; her brother-in-law James; her sister-in-law Beverly; and her former husband, Richard.
Juanita will be remembered for her remarkable resilience, her quiet grace, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and in the many lives she touched through compassion and unwavering strength.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
