Linda K. Balling, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully after a long and meaningful life defined by devotion to family, faith, and community. She was born on March 10, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to Luverne Henry Clausen and Mary Louise Clausen.
An only child, Linda grew up in Westchester, California, where she formed lifelong friendships with neighbors and classmates. From her junior high years, she faithfully attended church at the end of her street, walking there each Sunday—a reflection of the quiet dedication that would characterize her life. At Westchester High School, she was a popular and active student, participating in drill team and tennis, and graduated in 1960.
Linda continued her education at Santa Monica City College, studying business. During that time, she worked part-time selling tickets at the Loyola Theater before beginning her career as a secretary with New York Life Insurance Company. For several years, she worked at Fairview Heights Church in Inglewood, CA.
It was through her church that Linda met the love of her life, Richard Balling. After two years of courtship, they were married in 1966, beginning a partnership that would span 60 years and serve as a lasting example of love and commitment. That same year, Linda embraced her most cherished role—that of mother—with the birth of her first child, Karin. She devoted herself fully to raising her family as a homemaker for over two decades.
After 21 years as a dedicated housewife, Linda returned to the workforce, joining the ABC Unified School District. There, she worked part-time in special education, helping students prepare for and find employment. Her compassion and patience made a meaningful difference in the lives of many. She retired after 19 years of service.
In 2005, Linda and Richard moved to La Mirada, California, where they enjoyed their retirement alongside their two beloved poodles. Linda found great joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with warmth and laughter. She had a passion for singing and was an active member of the Bellflower Civic Chorus, where she performed alongside her husband. She also enjoyed sewing and baking, and was especially known for her homemade “Honeycakes,” a treasured family tradition during the holidays.
Linda is survived by her loving children, Karin Balling; Cynthia (Balling) Anderson; and Richard Balling Jr. She was a proud grandmother to Stephanie Blake, Nichole Carreon, Isis Balling, and Lily Balling, and a great-grandmother to Ophelia Blake and Aiden Blake.
Linda will be remembered for her kindness, steady faith, and the deep love she held for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
