Luis Fernando Vivas Becerra was born to Luis Carlos and Maria Alicia on August 17, 1959. The oldest of five children, Luis Fernando grew up in Bogota, Columbia. He enjoyed going fishing with his dad and playing with his siblings, Alejandro, Ricardo, Margarita, and Camilo. He was a member of the boy scouts, loved to go camping, and he played the xylophone in the marching band at school.
As a child, he liked to spoil his pets and keep them close. He once had a newly born chick that he tried to keep warm by covering it with his blankets at night. When he woke the next morning, Luis discovered that the chick had died. Although he laughed as he remembered that moment, he also felt guilty and at the time, decided not to have any more pets.
Luis was very responsible and very passionate about almost everything he did in life. Although he seemed to be a very serious and introverted person on the outside, he had a great sense of humor. He was a wonderful mentor and amazing son, brother, uncle, friend and the best husband ever. He always thought about others and supported them when needed. Luis was known for saying “Always listen first, and then speak.”
Following in his father’s footsteps, Luis got his high school degree at a technical college in Bogota. In 1977, he attended the Fundación Universidad de America in Colombia and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent most of his working years as the Operations Chief in the Chlor-Alkali business, both in Colombia and in America. He was always excited to go to new places and travelled the world with his family.
Luis is preceded in death by his father, Luis Carlos.
He is survived by his mother, Maria Alicia, of Bogota, Colombia; his wife, Yaneth, of Prosper, TX; Siblings, Alejandro and wife Maria Constanza of Calgary, Canada, Ricardo and his wife Isabel of Bogota, Colombia, Margarita and her husband Jairo of Bogota., Columbia, Camilo and his wife Marcela of Bogota, Columbia.
Luis was honest, loyal, peaceful, secure, strong, reserved, courageous, tenacious, determined and cautious. He was loved while he was here with us and will continue to be loved throughout all time and eternity.
