Mario Dozzo was born on September 26, 1935, to Alberto and Rina Dozzo in Frisanco, Italy. Mario’s early life in northern Italy was shaped by the events of WWII, the Nazi occupation in the area and the hard work necessary to help support his family. At age 19, he made the life altering decision to leave Italy and seek a better life in Canada. With $50 in his pocket and not being able to speak the language he landed in Toronto and reached out to fellow Italians for work. After a variety of jobs in the construction business, he and three others formed their own business, Structural Formwork, Inc., a concrete company. This company grew to be both multi provincial and multi-national with an expansion to the Dallas area in the 1980s. Which then grew more, to serve all of the Gulf States, and redefining skylines across that part of the country.
With some success behind him, he brought his parents and sister to Toronto as well. He then married Marilyn Jones of Jamaica and they brought up three children together. While work and success were a large part of his life, equally important was his family life at home and in particular the treasured times at the family cottage in Orillia, Ontario where days were spent relaxing, boating, hunting and skiing.
Mario is predeceased by his parents, and sisters: Maria Dozzo Furlan and Gina Dozzo. He is survived by his three children: Guiseppe (Lucy), David (Skylar) and Alison Dozzo Wright (Dave); three grandchildren: Anthony Dozzo, Alexandra Wright and Lauren Wright; a great grandson Giancarlo Dozzo; two nephews: Denis and Fabio Furlan; and cousins in Italy.
In addition to his family, Mario’s legacy lives on through his Dallas based company, the myriad long-term friendships and his charitable foundation, the Mario Dozzo Foundation which supports nonprofit organizations.
The family wishes to acknowledge his care team at home and at the hospital. As well as dedicating a special thank you to his personal caregivers Raquel Torres, Erika and Nancy for their compassion and care.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Frisco, Tx at 11:00am. Visitation with the family is scheduled for 3:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm the day before at Stonebriar Funeral Home at 10375 Preston Rd Frisco, Tx. Burial will follow in Toronto, Ontario.
