Eddie Lee Mallory, age 74, of Flint Hill peacefully went to meet his Lord in the early morning hours of April 9, 2012 surrounded by his nephew and niece. Eddie was born on March 11, 1938, a son of the late Benjamin and Mary Toombs Mallory. He lived and worked on Rock Hill Farm in Flint Hill, where he was a hard working and dedicated employee for 54 years. He enjoyed being on a tractor in the orchards and caring for the cattle, often referring to his job as a “Hobby”. He longed for the simple things in life and lived most of his life in the shadows of the Blue Ridge, where any given night you could hear the twang of his banjo picking “The Wild Wood Flower”, and when his hands could work no longer, then the harmonica became the instrument of choice. He was a fan of the Redskins and NASCAR and of the “Young and the Restless” soap opera that he would watch every day on his lunch break. Once a year he would want to go on a trip, not too far, to Skyline Drive for a picnic and to see Big Meadows. He took great pride in his numerous cats that would get left near his home and he would take care of and proudly proclaim, “these are my pets”. Eddie was never known to speak a bad word about anyone and never met anyone he couldn’t find any good in. Eddie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Jesse Jeffries who shares his home and Chuck and Sandy Jeffries who remained constantly by his side. Many thanks to the family of Louis Moore, Sr. for their many acts of kindness. Also to Corina Ovington, his caregiver for the last two years.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brothers, Paige Mallory and Benjamin Mallory; and his sister Sarah Frances Jeffries. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Flint Hill Cemetery. Personal condolences may be offered to the family online at www.turnerrobertshaw.com.
