Wanda Rae Huff Smedley, age 73 of Front Royal, passed away peacefully, January 19, 2012 at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville after a courageous battle with heart disease. Her children and cousin were with her.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Wanda was born March 3, 1938, the only child of the late Evalina Smallwood Huff and Thurman Ray Huff. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Smedley Cullers and husband Steven Cullers, Timothy W. Smedley and wife Cathy Smedley and Todd A. Smedley and companion Penny Whitney. Linda Smallwood Sheehan, her cousin, loved like a sister. Grandchildren David L Cullers and Jamie Langlais, Ashley Smedley Cahill and husband Tony and Emily Cullers Walton and husband Robbie. She is also survived by a multitude of “my adopted children” as she would call people who were special to her.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Dennis M. Smedley.
Wanda was known to many throughout Warren and Frederick Counties for her work at the Virginia Cooperative Extension Agency and as a C.N.A at Winchester Medical Center and most recently at Hidden Springs Senior Living. She took great pride in her profession and caring for others. One of her great loves was dancing. We can take comfort in knowing she is dancing again with her friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of love and respect for Wanda be in the form of donations to the James Brogan Recovery Fund, c/o Virginia Savings Bank, 600 Commerce Ave., Front Royal, VA 22630
