Bart found his life's work in a machine class at Fort Collins High School. As a prototype machinist at CSU's Engineering Research Center for 25 years, he thrived on the variety of new ideas he worked on. He was proud of being able to make perfect parts on surplus machinery older than he was. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and his belief that hands-on skills are important in the increasingly computerized world he hated.
Bart was happiest restoring single shot Rolling Block rifles, designing stages for and shooting SASS Cowboy Action events, or driving in the mountains he loved. His friends will remember him best standing in the shop he built with a beer in his hand.
Bart is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane; his niece Annette Nelson and her family; and brothers-in-law Donald Goss and Mark Boyd. His life-long friends Janice Barman and Carl Wisenhorn held special places in his life.
Family asks that his friends take time to visit friends in-person to share a memory or a beer while they can. The long slow journey of Alzheimer's may hide the friends we remember but they are still in there.
No services are panned. A gathering of friends will be held. Memories of Bart are welcome at resthavencolorado.com.
