William “Bill” Albert Alexander, Jr. was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He was born May 14, 1953, and passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children, brother, sister, and his loyal dogs. He was 72.
An attorney by profession and by calling, Bill devoted his career to fighting for justice for the “little guy.” He never hesitated to take on the State or powerful insurance companies, firmly believing that the law existed to protect people, not institutions. He believed in standing up for his clients and never backing down. Whether in the courtroom or on appeal, he was willing to fight as long as it took, and his determination on behalf of others was widely respected.
Outside the courtroom, Bill found joy in a wide area of passions. He loved his dogs and refereeing middle and high school football and umpiring high school baseball. He was at home behind the wheel on rugged, off-road trails throughout the United States, in the kitchen cooking elaborate meals for his family, and brewing beer for himself and friends, while also brewing root beer so the kids could share in the fun. A keen bridge player, he valued the camaraderie as much as the strategy, and he was proud of earning master points and winning a large bridge tournament held in Northern Colorado.
Travel was one of Bill’s great loves. After graduating from college, he spent months backpacking through Europe and went on to enjoy adventures such as to Ecuador, where he visited the Galapagos Islands, Inca Empire ruins, and the headwaters of the Amazon River; fishing trips in Canada; and traveling to Bali to attend his niece’s wedding. Among his favorite achievements was placing his feet in four of the world’s great oceans: the Indian, Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic.
Despite his travel and demanding career, Bill never missed his children’s events. Whether it was a sports game, black belt testing, or an elementary school performance, he was going to be there. His greatest fear was that some day his family would not need him, which highlights, above all, Bill’s greatest and favorite journey was the life he built with the people he loved most.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Alexander, Sr. and Barbara B. Alexander, as well as his grandson Wyatt Alexander. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane C. Alexander; his children, Robert W. Alexander, Megan A. Cortez, Zachary C. Alexander, and Nina M. Alexander; his brother, Roger F. Alexander; his sister, Sarah A. Gaffney; and his grandchildren, Logan C. Owen, William L. Alexander, Taylor W. Cortez, Emma D. Cortez, Dillon C. Alexander, Donnie Z. Alexander, Gemma Alexander, Genevieve Alexander; and three of his cherished dogs; as well as many extended family members, colleagues, and friends who will miss him deeply.
Honoring his wishes and his love of adventure, his ashes will be scattered in the summer of 2026 at the trailhead of his favorite four-wheel-drive trail, beneath a sign that reads “Rough Road Ahead.” Information regarding a celebration of life will be shared at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Breakthrough T1D (formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Foundation) in his memory.
In words that Bill would undoubtedly approve, “Stand up for the little guy—then go have a beer and enjoy your life.”
