He is survived by his four children: Bruce, of Berkeley, CA; Bob, of Aurora, CO (spouse, Marie); Greg, of Noblesville, IN (spouse, Cheryl); and Steve, of Loveland, CO (spouse, Jennifer). Bill has three grandchildren: Justin, Lilly (Austin) German and Gabby; and two great-grandsons, Rowan and Dominic.
Bill was born in 1928 in Bardstown, Kentucky and raised in Louisville, Kentucky by his single mother Mary Benetta Cecil. He was preceded in death by his five older siblings. Bill served in the Navy in the post-war activities after WWII in the South Pacific. He later served in the Army during the Korean conflict, where he was Veteran of War. He received honorable discharges from both the Navy and Army.
While in Louisville, he met the “Love of his Life” Jean Eleanor Fitzgibbon. She was a nursing student and he was going to school on the GI Bill plus working at the time they started dating. He said: “Once we met, we never dated another person. We knew we were a perfect fit”. They married in 1955 enjoying nearly 67 years together before Jean passed away in 2022. They had four boys in Louisville, Kentucky before settling in Newburgh, Indiana and lived there until his retirement as a manager of wholesale lumber stores. They then moved to Loveland, Colorado enjoying the mountains. Bill was adept at woodworking, making many pieces of furniture for the home. He had a love for golf, playing into his early 90’s where he liked the camaraderie as much as the game. He was an active member at St. John the Evangelist Church in Loveland, including being a member of the Knights of Columbus. He lived the last few years at The Wexford Independent Retirement Community, where he made many friends.
