Chelsea was born May 16, 1983 in Durango, Colorado. She spent her childhood adventuring to Lake Powell, skiing, playing basketball and as a student athletic trainer.
After graduating Durango High School in 2001, she moved to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University, graduating with her BS in Health and Exercise Science. Establishing roots during college, she later blossomed at CooperSmith's Brewery, where she worked for many years. It was there she developed her leadership skills, and Fort Collins became her forever home.
An avid Denver Broncos fan, Chelsea loved sports and bringing people together. She was always up for a game - from watching on TV, to live professional sports, to card or board games and most especially, to cheering her kids on as they played. She was always engaged, passionate and enthusiastic…and going for the W!
There was nothing she was more passionate about than her children, Hayden (17) and Ike (13). Chelsea loved her kids fiercely and supported them wholeheartedly. She was quick to lend support, volunteer or jump in to coach so kids never lost out. Making sure her kids had great experience and memories was her top priority and she loved spontaneity.
Always with a camera in hand, Chelsea effortlessly captured special moments, beautiful landscapes and quirky faces. Her home was a storybook of photos, spectacularly chronicling her life.
Chelsea had an ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. She was spunky, vivacious and had a great sense of humor. She had a knack for finding the coolest rocks, breaking the ice, and her infectious laugh could brighten any room. Her beauty was undeniable, inside and out. Her resilience, sharp wit and generosity made a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her parents Roger Hayes (Margie Sittner) and Nancy West; children, Hayden and Ike Butler and their father, Dustin; older sister Courtney (Jeff) Hayes Babcock; younger sisters Leslie (Tyler) West Benson and Megan West Underwood; her cherished nieces and nephews Logan, Chandler, Owen, Taylor and Ayden; dear family friend Su Compton and “sisters” Brooke and Brendee; and her adoring partner, Tyson Busby, who was by her side through every day they were together, good or bad.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and loving stepdad, Brian West.
A celebration of life will take place in Durango in summer of 2026, date to be determined. If you would like to be updated on details, please email [email protected].
