Dean, the son of Fermor and Marjorie McIntire, was born in Delta, Colorado and grew up in Olathe, Colorado on California Mesa. All through school in Olathe, he assisted in the family farming, along side of his dad and Uncle Bill. After high school, he went to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend Weber State, studying mechanical engineering. He had a passion for mathematics, so when he met and married Laura and had his son, Art, they moved to Gunnison, Colorado to attend Western State College where he got his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics.
His first teaching job was in Hayden, Colorado teaching math to grades 1-12 at the school in Hayden. He also assisted in boys high school wrestling. It was there that his daughter, Laurie, was born. He moved the family to Laramie, Wyoming to get his Master’s Degree in Mathematics at the University there.
The family then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he taught mathematics at Colorado College and his two other daughters, Joddie and Kristie, were born. He decided to move to Eugene, Oregon to pursue a Doctorate Degree at the University of Oregon. He taught mathematics there and at Lane Community College and then moved to Bend, Oregon to teach mathematics there at Central Oregon Community College. It was there that he decided to move back to Colorado and accepted his old professor’s position teaching mathematics and computer science at Western State College.
He and Laura then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he programmed on various tasks, including the Government’s Star Wars Program and working with the military at Cheyenne Mountain. By then, Laura had fallen ill and they moved back to Olathe, Colorado to be near family. For several years he helped his daughters with their businesses and enjoyed haying with his daughter, Laurie, and her family driving John Deere tractors. His favorite horse of hers was Bearcat, which he always inquired about when they talked.
He was very active in many churches and loved to learn about Christ, prayed several times a day, and studied his Bible. God was a huge part of his life and he loved to talk about his faith.
After Laura’s death, he moved to South Carolina and married Argelis. They moved to Florida and Arizona and then when Argelis retired, they moved to their place in Livermore, Colorado. During that time, Dean still taught mathematics at various colleges and was still teaching online for Murray State College at the time of his death. He enjoyed watching his great grandson, Jaxson, and great granddaughter, Allana, race BMX bikes in the Denver area.
He will be missed by family and the many math students he had through the years.
Dean is survived by his wife, Argelis V. McIntire; daughters, Laurie, Joddie (Les) Partch, and Kristie (Kelly) Medina; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; son (Art); brother (Richard); wife (Laura); and nephew (Mike).
